The Yorkshire Vets are looking for some new Committee Members to join the well established team of volunteers at the AGM on Monday 15th October 2018 at Sand Moor Golf Club, Leeds
It's not a huge committment.
We only have 4 meetings a year, on Saturday mornings at Moortown Golf Club, Leeds.
The only other thing you may be needed to do is a shift or two on the Competition Desks.
It's a great way of meeting new friends and also putting something back into golf
If you're even slightly interested, then please do have a chat with Gill Travis (Acting Secretary), Penny Holroyd (Competition Secretary), or any Official or present committee member, or if you're playing in any events through the year just ask the ladies on the desk for more info.
Or even just send us an email on the CONTACT US PAGE and we'll email or ring you back

OCTOBER 2017

Dear Club Representatives

Thank you for being the YVLGA representative for your Club. I know you will encourage your members to look at the opportunities available in the new season & enter as many as possible. We are aware that some members experience frustration when their entries are unsuccessful but we would ask you to manage Club submissions & let the Competition Secretary know who should be prioritised, where appropriate.

Briefly, the role of the club representative is:

...To liaise with your club's YVLGA members and the YVLGA committee in case of queries and problems and to pass on information from YVLGA to our members

...To collect annual membership fees and pay by 31 December prior to the playing year. Please note that new members can now join as soon as they reach the age of 50 during the playing year if they wish to play in competitions (see below)

...Check your list of members for playing and non-playing members so YVLGA can pay to the Northern Veterans Association, the annual per capita fee for playing members

...Send to the Competition Secretary your members' entries to competitions by the deadline date printed on the posters which is now 1st March for ALL competitions

...Make your members aware of the benefits of joining the YVLGA

You have already been sent a list of your current members who now need to pay an annual subscription but if you have not received your list, please let me know & I’ll send another copy. Many clubs still have some LIFE members & no subscriptions are payable for them. However, we are keen that this list is kept current so any lady who has not played in YVLGA competitions in the last 5 years should now have NP against their name. If circumstances change, they can easily be re-instated. Please also delete or amend the list as necessary so that it is up to date.

Subscriptions for Annual members remains at £5 per year. All subscriptions & new member applications must be received by 1st January prior to the playing year. Any additional annual memberships for new members reaching 50 years of age and attaining 35 handicap or less after January 1st must paid prior to playing in any YVLGA match or competition and before 30th September.

Cheques should be made payable to Y.V.L.G.A. and sent to Karen Leake (address available on the downloadable application form). If you are making an electronic payment to the YVLGA Bank Account please read the info below this letter

The year starts with the Spring Meeting and is a great taster for the season. The diary for the year is available at your club or you can download it from the website. (Look on the Competition Dates page).

If you have not received your mailing or have any queries please do not hesitate to e-mail me at karenmleake@gmail.com.

Thank you once again for acting as your Club Representative – your assistance is much appreciated.

I wish you all a successful golfing year in 2018.

Karen

Mrs Karen Leake keeps all the records of membership (e-mail: karenmleake@gmail.com )
Please contact her to remove any members who have not played for over five years

Remember to put 'YVLGA' in the subject box when e-mailing

                           CLUB REPS MEETING

FEEDBACK from CLUB REPS MEETING @ PIKE HILLS GC. Thursday 14th September.

Penny Holroyd (Competition Secretary) outlined her analysis of the survey on the desk at YVLGA Competitions regarding the initial joining handicap for new members. This is currently a handicap of 33 or less as stated in the Constitution. The survey asked whether this is OK or should be increased or decreased. Approximately, a two thirds majority of those that 'responded' suggested that it should be increased to a handicap of 35 whilst a third said it should stay the same or even decrease.

Survey regarding membership handicap the results are as follows :

94 ladies said Yes to increasing the handicap limit for entry

20 said increase to 36

62 said increase to 35

12 just said yes

48 ladies said No

1 said reduce to 30

                                                                                   2 said remain or lower

Following a lively discussion looking at various points of view, it would seem likely that an AMENDMENT to the Proposed changes to Article 14 of the YVLGA Constitution put forward by the Committee for discussion & voting at the forthcoming AGM (Agenda Item 9 - to stop dual County membership) is likely to be raised from the floor. This amendment is likely to suggest raising the joining handicap to 35 for new members and will be discussed & voted upon before the original proposed change to the YVLGA Constitution.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CLUB MEMBERS ARE MADE AWARE OF THIS PROPOSED AMENDMENT SO THAT THEY CAN DECIDE WHETHER TO ATTEND THE AGM IF THEY FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT THE ISSUE (EITHER WAY).

2018 Non Qualifying Competition Results Information

Recording of Non-Qualifying Scores from England Golf (Download here)
From January 1st 2017 England Golf requires players to return all scores in competetive golf in Non-Qualifying Competitions away from the player's home club.
This applies to all Singles, Am-Am and 4BBB competitions.
Each Club should have put a process in place for the recording of this information.
It is the player's responsibility to do this and the information to be recorded as follows:
* Date of competition
* Format (inc H'cap Allowance)
*Venue/Course
*Tees Used
*SSS of course
*Names of playing partners ( if a team/pairs event)
*Score returned
Failure to do this could result in loss, or suspension, of handicap under clause 24.1
The YVLGA will be returning the top 5 scores from each competition to the relevant Club Handicap Secretary
.
